There is no democracy without dissent. There can be no informed dissent without a free press. There can be no effective dissent without freedom of speech and assembly. Since September 11, 2001 and the passage of the Patriot Act all these freedoms have been compromised by law or challenged in the public arena. See related articles

Citizens who have spoken out against the Bush Administration, both elected officials and public personalities, have been derided, fired, or accused of being disloyal to their country. We, the AAW collective who have launched this site, believe the contrary is true. Those who attempt to silence freedom of expression are opposed to the ideals and values that are the foundation of this Republic.

There are Americans across this country who appear to be unfamiliar with the history of the struggle for the preservation and extension of our civil liberties, granted us by the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of the United States. Your rights
